CARDIFF DEVILS 8 DUNDEE STARS 6

Dundee Stars suffered heartbreak in Wales last night as they let a lead slip four times before going down 8-6 to the Elite League Playoff champions.

Cardiff Devils were quickly behind as Elgin Pearce gave Dundee the lead but the game would be tied at 1-1 after Mark Richardson flicked a shot into the top corner.

In the second period the Stars quickly stormed into a 3-1 lead with goals coming from Drydn Dow and Pearce again.

However, after hitting penalty trouble Dundee saw that lead vanish. Devils pulled one back through Sean Mcmonagle on the powerplay before Matias Sointu netted the home side’s third goal.

Omar Pacha’s men got themselves back in front as Kevin Dufour finally scored on what was his third breakaway chance of the night and Justin Maylan pushed home a loose puck on the powerplay to put the Stars 5-3 up right before the end of the second session.

Cardiff pulled one back through Matt Pope early in the third before adding his second goal – the third game-tying strike only awarded after a lengthy review.

Dundee would get themselves back in front with Dow repeating his move on his first goal to make it 6-5.

Devils then made it 6-6 moments later as Gleason Fournier’s shot slipped through the grasp of Leclerc.

Stephen Dixon turned in a Blair Riley pass and it snuck through the legs of the Dundee goalie to give Cardiff the lead for the first time in the 53rd minute.

After the Devils hit penalty trouble in the final minutes, they did manage to secure the win with an empty net goal inside the final minute thanks to Matthew Myers.
