Cocaine discovery after police tracked down Forfar crash man

-

An Angus man who crashed into the rear of another vehicle after drinking has been banned from driving for three years and fined a total of £630.

Dean Crighton, 26, of Lordburn Place, Forfar, refused to give a breath sample at police headquarters in Dundee and was found to be in possession of cocaine following the incident in St James Road, Forfar, on March 7 this year.

Joiner Crighton hit another driver around 8pm at the New Road junction and a passenger in the other vehicle recognised the accused and reported him to police.

Police investigating the crash saw him walking in Lordburn Place around an hour later and also saw a bag of white power on the ground, of which Crighton denied any knowledge.

Defence solicitor Nick Markowski said: “The cocaine was the remnants of a slightly larger quantity he had purchased two weeks previously.

“He had a problem with recreational substances.”

Crighton, who admitted three charges relating to the incident, was also ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work by Sheriff Derek Reekie.

Also at Forfar: Alistair Fergusson, 20, of Gibson Place, Montrose, was placed on a good behaviour order until January 16.

He had earlier admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner towards his ex-partner on August 13 this year at Wards Road, Brechin, while on bail.

The court heard that Fergusson is currently on three community payback orders, two of which he has already breached.
