Gavin Thomson was the Dundee North End hero at Scone Thistle as Ross Lunan’s men edged a keenly contested cup tie between two of the sides promoted to the Super League in the summer.

Thomson’s winner came with 15 minutes to go and although Thistle pressed for a winner North End’s defence held firm.

Lochee Harp put up a stern resistance against Luncarty at Downfield Park and it was a much better performance from Michael Gormley’s side that have not had their troubles to find this season.

With the game ending goalless after 90 minutes it was on to penalty kicks and the visitors triumphed in the shoot-out, winning 4-3.

Blairgowrie were another side to need penalty kicks to progress, against Arbroath Vics at Davie Park, but that was only part of the story as the home side ended 90 minutes with only nine men after Liam Mcpherson was sent off on 77 minutes and then Gordon Pirrie followed three minutes later.

Blair triumphed 4-2 in the resultant penalty shoot-out with Drew Madocjones, Steven Findlay, Ian Plenderleith and Gary Axworthy successful, while Gordon O’brien saved three of Vics’ kicks.

Liam Gray had put the home side in front but Jamie Mackie equalised with a sweetly struck free-kick. Parity lasted less than 60 seconds as Kriss Goss put Thistle back in front straight from the kick-off.

The Armadale man then had the chance to make it 3-1 from the spot but Jack Shaw saved his kick.

Lyall Shaw levelled for Port and three minutes later Dayle Robertson put the visitors in front from the penalty spot. Robertson added a fourth but the home side scored twice to make it 4-4 before Robertson completed his hat-trick in the second minute of stoppage-time.
