Angus buildings to be improved thanks to common good funds

-

Brechin’s municipal buildings and city hall are in line for improvements after Angus councillors approved measures paid for by the authority’s common good fund.

The projects will include the £50,000 refurbishment of windows in the Bank Street municipal buildings and installation of secondary glazing, as well as £15,000 for external painting and fire exit door improvements.

A further £8,500 will be spent on replacing a flue at the city halls, and buffing and resealing the hardwood floors in both halls.

Angus Council’s infrastructure unit made the successful application to the common good fund, with the authority’s communities department securing £30,000 to de-culvert a collapsed section of the town’s Den Burn.

Ward councillors also agreed a £10,000 contribution towards the estimated £30,645 structural repair of Brechin City Band’s hall.

In Forfar, a Strathmore Rugby Club Community Trust request for £5,000 to support a scheme involving academy pupils was unanimously refused by town councillors.

Angus Council administers the five common good funds for Arbroath, Brechin, Forfar, Kirriemuir and Montrose.

The approvals leave the Brechin common good fund with a balance of £243,183.

“As part of the budget cycle, council services have the opportunity to submit bids for common good funds and this is particularly prevalent where the bids are for the maintenance of the common good asset for repairs and maintenance which is a liability on the Common Good funds,” said infrastructure services director Ian Cochrane.
