Thomson ignored call of nature on comeback trail

-

Joe Thomson has revealed he was so desperate to make his injury comeback at the weekend he ignored the fact he was bursting for the toilet.

The Dunfermline midfielder returned to the first-team squad for the first time in more than seven months for the trip to Alloa Athletic on Saturday.

The former Celtic youngster has suffered an agonising battle back to fitness since rupturing his anterior cruciate knee ligament (ACL) against Ayr United in March.

The next step for Thomson is to force his way into Stevie Crawford’s starting line-up.

And he admits he was not about to give up on the hope of a substitute’s appearance against Alloa because of a call of nature.

The 22-year-old, who never got off the bench in the 2-1 defeat, said: “It was good for the manager to put me in the squad and show faith in me. Some boys missed out but I was so excited.

“I guessed that I wouldn’t start since the boys have had a couple of good results.

“I was dying to get on but in the second half I was bursting for the toilet but couldn’t go in case he wanted to put me on.

“I didn’t want to miss my chance. It never came but these things happen.

“The result wasn’t going the way we wanted. He put two strikers on because they can affect the game better. It was his decision, we just look forward to the next game against Stranraer and hopefully my first first team action will come there.”

Thomson confesses his rehabilitation has been difficult, but he reckons things are even tougher now that he feels fit and ready to make his comeback.

He added: “I would say that it is probably getting harder now. The closer you get you want to get on the pitch and show people what you can do again.

“You want to show people that you are back and you can make the difference but you have got to be patient at the same time.

“I am still coming back from a long-term injury but I feel really good and feel really strong now.”
