St Andrews up to sixth

-

St Andrews University’s 3-1 win over Glasgow University in a rescheduled Division 2 match moves them above Glasgow to sixth place.

They are firmly in mid-table, well clear of the bottom three teams and only a point behind Perthshire with a game in hand.

Monarchs had played their eight scheduled games but Strathclyde University had the chance to open a more significant gap at the top of the third division but lost 3-2 at Granite City Wanderers.

Strathclyde are still three points ahead of Monarchs, with Granite City five points worse off in third but with a game in hand.

Wanderers II showed that they are very much a force in Midland Division 1 with an impressive 7-2 win over Harris II.

Rafi Reicher-saleem scored four of the goals with Paul Dailly, Bruce Rowan and Alex Slater chipping in with one each.

Wanderers III were not so fortunate, losing 8-2 to a good Dundee University team. Saul Kirkwood scored both Wanderers’ goals.

The academy series for under-19s – with a team from each of Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow – was held over the weekend.

Dundee Devils lost 2-1 to Edinburgh Lightning on Saturday and 3-2 to Glasgow Thunder on Sunday.

Ali Douglas (Clydesdale) gave Dundee the lead over Edinburgh before they fought back to win while Livio Belotti (Inverleith) and Iain Mcfadden (Highland) scored Devils’ goals after Glasgow had led 3-0.

Glasgow won the event having beaten Edinburgh on penalties after a 3-3 draw on Friday.
