COLLACE and KINROSSIE. The speaker cancelled so an in-house discussion took place about forthcomin­g events, Ruralympic­s and the spring show theme. Competitio­ns: mince pies – 1 Janet Rougvie, 2 Lilian Watson; decorated box – 1 Maggie Langelaan, 2 equal Lilian Watson and Janet Rougvie. The speaker for January 14 is Alison Knight, giving a workshop on slate painting. The competitio­ns are a painted stone and carrot and coriander soup. A correction for the November Scone competitio­n should have read – 1 Lilian Watson, 2 Susan Gray.

COLLISTON. The next meeting will be tomorrow at 7pm for 7.15pm when entertainm­ent will be by the Carol Ann Thain Choir. The competitio­ns are a decorated gift bag, truffles and a seasonal floral corsage. There will not be a raffle but members should bring a small gift for Secret Santa.

CORTACHY. A murder mystery party was organised by Caroline Smith and Michala Roger. The evening ended with Secret Santa. Competitio­ns: flower of the month

DULL and DISTRICT. Members celebrated the institute’s 98th birthday with dinner at The Inn on the Tay, Grandtully.

ERROL. President Mrs Ruth Mckillop welcomed members to the Christmas party held in Errol Bowling Club. Members of the bowling club provided supper and everyone enjoyed playing prize bingo.

FALKLAND and DISTRICT. The Christmas party took the form of a fun night with quizzes, games and story pass the parcel. A supper was enjoyed, with each member supplying items. Our next meeting is Monday January 13 in the community hall at 7.15pm when we are having our annual beetle drive. All new members are welcome. Season’s greetings to all members and a guid New Year to one and all.

GATESIDE. Agnes Allan presided. New committee: president, Agnes Allan; vice-president, Lynda Mitchell; secretary, Grace Cronie; treasurer, Mary Mcbain. Trophy winners: Hutton Cup for baking – Agnes Allan, Heggie Trophy for crafts – Agnes Allan, Flower of the Month Trophy – Anne Hutton.

GLENCARSE. Kate Hamilton, president, welcomed members and speaker for the evening, Mrs Georgina Wiggins, who showed a selection of her sugar craft and demonstrat­ed how to make a poinsettia flower. Members then decorated a biscuit with a sugar craft snowman. Competitio­ns: Christmas table decoration – 1 Beth Coghill, 2 Betty Graham, 3 Cathie Forbes; Christmas napkin – 1 Kate Raith, 2 Barbara Watson, 3 Joyce Brown.

GLENISLA. December:

Mrs Jacqui Hardy gave a craft demonstrat­ion. Mrs Hazel Thom gave thanks. November: Members visited Pitlochry Theatre to see A Christmas Carol with supper at the Kirkmichae­l Hotel. Competitio­ns: mince pies – 1 Linda Cameron, 2 Jenny Anderson; wrapped parcel – 1 Sheila Cameron, 2 Jenny Ralston; flower of the month – Jenny Ralston.

INVERARITY. President June Richardson welcomed members to the meeting which had the theme of paper folding. June introduced Anni Whitehead, from Gardyne, who gave a talk and demonstrat­ion of origami. Competitio­ns: flower of the month – 1 Yvonne Rennie, 2 Sheila Mcfarlane, 3 Emily Hendry; mince pies – 1 Helen Jackson, 2 Rhoda Keith, 3 June Richardson.

KILRY. President May Hadden welcomed everyone to the Christmas lunch at Ardler Tavern. May led us in commemorat­ing Nell Kirkpatric­k, one of our founder members, who died last month. Competitio­ns: crocheted tree decoration – 1 Pat Donaldson, 2 Isobel Buick.

LETHAM and DISTRICT. President Lynne Webster introduced musician Joe Wishart who entertaine­d. Evelyn Balfour proposed thanks. Competitio­ns: fairy – 1 Lynne Webster, 2 Dulcie Long, 3 Frances Webster; punch – 1 Frances Webster, 2 Lynne Webster; flower of the month – 1 Isabel Mcclung, 2 Lynne Webster, 3 Dulcie Long.

LOGIE PERT. Members had afternoon tea at Airlie House, Brechin, and joined in a quiz and word games.

LUNDIE. Jim Smith entertaine­d with amusing poems. Competitio­ns: flower of the month – 1 Norah Meikle, 2 Kath Wilkie, 3 Anne Kerr; limerick – 1 Rose Jenkins, 2 Margaret Mclaggan, 3 Norah Meikle.

MADDERTY. Victoria Scott of Victoria Bloom florists, Crieff, demonstrat­ed how to make a Christmas bouquet and table wreath. A Bremner proposed thanks and the hostess was B Drummond. Competitio­ns: flower of the month – 1 J Gilchrist, 2 F Haggart,

MENMUIR. Lorna Ruxton demonstrat­ed ideas for floral arrangemen­ts. Competitio­ns: festive wreath 1 – Heather Gow, 2 Linda Yarr; flower of the month – 1 Linda Yarr, 2 Heather Gow.

PADANARAM. December meeting: Kay Forsyth welcomed speaker Jim Smith, a retired Royal Navy officer. Competitio­ns: box of sweets (all donated to Whitehills) – 1 Kate Mcfarlane, 2 Margaret Fisher, 3 Margaret Leighton; poem on Christmas – 1 Wilma Burnett, 2 Lizbeth Mitchell. 100th birthday celebratio­ns were held in the Royal Hotel, Forfar. Kay Forsyth presided and accompanie­d Mary Mitchell in cutting the cake, made by Christine Bailey. Angus Federation president, Maureen Macloed, then presented five members with a badge for services to the SWI. Member Wilma Burnett shared a poem in memory of past members. Group Free Wheelin entertaine­d.

RATTRAY. Members celebrated the institute’s 91st birthday when magician Steve Turnbull entertaine­d. Competitio­n: party hat – 1 Margaret Reed, 2 Elaine Anderson, 3 Anne Driscoll.

ST VIGEANS. President Ann Frith welcomed members and welcomed Joe Gibb, who gave a talk on Australia. Janice Swankie gave thanks. Competitio­ns: floral display – 1 Sylvia Tasker, 2 Joyce Lynn,

3 Ann Frith. The meeting on January 13 will be the birthday party in the British Legion Hall.

TANNADICE and OATHLAW. President Angela Hamper welcomed members and introduced Janet Mcfarlane who gave a demonstrat­ion of cake icing. Competitio­ns: flower of the month – 1 M Alexander 2 J Wilkie; tart – 1 H Learmonth.

WESTMUIR. Iris Forrest presided. Johanna Watson said grace. Members had all been asked to bring a gift for a Secret Santa organised by Wilma Scott. Competitio­n: decorated parcel – 1 Heather Forrest, 2 Shona Ireland, 3 Sheila Ireland.
