Community trust’s game of two halves to get men back to work

-

Dundee Football Club’s Community Trust is launching a new scheme to help unemployed men over the age of 25 back into work.

The Your Dee Future scheme aims to introduce men in long-term unemployment to programmes being offered by Dundee City Council and the Job Centre.

The eight weekly sessions will begin with a 45-minute educational workshop while the “second half” of each class will be a game of football with DFC community coaches.

Community manager Greg Fenton said: “We are delighted to announce this extremely exciting project that connects with men who are unemployed.

“Football clubs are a massive part of the local community, and we are using the brand of Dundee Football Club to help men learn new skills while also enjoying a game of football.

“We at Dundee FC Community Trust are committed to helping transform lives in our community.

“Our new programme enables personal development, social inclusion and community integration.”

Funding for the project has been provided by Dundee City Council.

Classes will take place at Dens Park and at other sports facilities around the city.

The scheme will start early next year.

Mr Fenton added: “We hope the workshops will result in the participants having increased knowledge and confidence to support them in their future choices, while staying physically and mentally fit with our sports programme.”
