Jambos could take loan pair back, admits boss
Stevie Crawford admits Dunfermline are preparing for a future without Harry Cochrane and Anthony Mcdonald after Daniel Stendel raised the possibility of the loan duo being recalled to Hearts.
Crawford insists a conversation still needs to take place to resolve exactly what Hearts’ plans are for the pair, with new Jambos manager Stendel publicly expressing a desire to see the midfielders in training ahead of the January transfer window.
The teenagers penned seasonlong agreements with Dunfermline in August, but with the possibility of heading back to Tynecastle during next month’s transfer window.
Talks have taken place between the clubs but, with uncertainty still remaining, Crawford is adamant he has to keep his options open in case Hearts want the loanees to return.
He said: “There’s been communication with Hearts.
“There’s always the chance of loan players having to go back in January because the other club might have players possibly going back to their parent clubs.
“I’m not going to divulge what the communication has been but we are working behind the scenes so we know what’s out there and available should something happen and players move on.
“The fact there’s a change of management, Hearts might want to have them back.
“It’s a conversation we’ll have to have with Hearts to see where we’re at, in terms of extending the loan deal, if that’s possible.”
Cochrane has started the last three games for Dunfermline after a slow opening to his spell in Fife, while Mcdonald has yet to make his debut after a back injury.
And Crawford insists the Pars will seek to protect their own interests when trying to find a solution to Stendel’s wish to see the 18-yearolds in action.
He added: “We’re understanding of their situation but we also have to make sure we’re doing the right thing for Dunfermline as well.”
