A former Tayside fire chief is facing a fraud charge over the sale of a brigade Land Rover.

Stewart Edgar, of Carnoustie, pictured, is due to appear before Cheltenham Magistrates on March 10.

Edgar, 52, began his career in the Angus town as a retained firefighter in 1991 and was awarded the Queen’s Fire Service Medal at Buckingham Palace in 2013.

He quit his £147,000 a year post as chief fire officer in

Gloucester in 2018, the same year he was made an OBE for service to the public, following an internal investigation into the disposal of a service vehicle.

Gloucester Police confirmed the charge yesterday. The Land Rover is said to have been worth £8,000 at the time of sale but was allegedly sold for only £500.

The Arbroath-born former area manager of Tayside Fire and Rescue was the lead fire officer dealing with fire and rescue service planning for the G8 Summit at Gleneagles.
