Pop singer Tom Jones was the “most popular person” on British television in 1969. In a poll conducted among the readers of TV Times, the Welsh star collected one in 10 of the votes cast. Runner-up was suave character actor Gerald Harper. The poll was for anyone appearing on ITV or BBC during 1969. It brought in nominations from outside the TV personality field. Most popular of these was the Prince of Wales who just failed to find a place in the top 10. Enoch Powell was the most popular TV politician.
