Olaf spreads a little cheer on his tour of Kirkcaldy

Loveoliver charity founders organise surprise visit by film favourite

A surprise appearance by Disney’s Olaf character has helped lift the spirits of boys and girls living in the Seafield area of Kirkcaldy.

The Frozen favourite, who is a regular face of children’s cancer charity Loveoliver, took to the streets of the estate to wave to children through the windows to help boost morale during the second week of school closures due to coronavirus.

He completed a full circuit of West Vows Walk and Inchkeith Crescent chaperoned by husband-and-wife team Andy and Jennifer Gill and their two children, Micah, 8, and Rory, 5, who live on the estate.

Andy and Jennifer set up Loveoliver, which raises money for childhood cancer research and helps to provide practical support for families, after losing their beloved son, Oliver, in 2010 at just 24 weeks old to a rare and aggressive tumour.

Jennifer said: “We wanted to do something to support the community and spread some cheer among the local children so we took Olaf for out for our one daily walk around the estate.

“At a time when fundraising opportunities are very limited, we saw this as a chance to Funraise!

“Although they could only wave from their doors and windows, it was great to see so many girls and boys smiling and having fun. I think the parents enjoyed it too.”

Andy and Jennifer co-ordinated the walk via the West Vows Walk and Friends Whatsapp group set up by Seafield residents to support each other during lockdown.

The community has been using the group to check on vulnerable neighbours, report unusual activity on the estate, communicate local service updates, and to shop and provide basic supplies for families who are selfisolating.

Andy and Jennifer plan to repeat the walk next week with a Minion.
