Hundreds of people have paid tribute to three-year-old Robyn Knox in the Fife village where she lost her life in a road accident.

Crowds gathered at the park in Townhill, Dunfermline, on Saturday evening for a balloon release in memory of Robyn, who died after being struck by a car in Main Street on August 3.

Leading the tributes were Robyn’s devastated parents, Danielle Falconer and Barry Knox, who also revealed they were expecting twin boys.

Posting on Facebook, a friend of the couple said: “An amazing turnout tonight for such a special little girl, Barry and Danielle are two of the strongest people I know.”

There had been some criticism of the decision to hold a balloon release from people concerned about the impact of such events on the environment.

However, there has also been an outpouring of support for the family as they come to terms with their grief.

Danielle posted on social media: “Just to make them all aware there will be a bench, a tree and a mural too.

“The balloons are just happening first.”

She added: “Thank you so much to everyone who joined us tonight.”

Robyn, of Cardenden, was a member of Starlet Dance Studio in Dunfermline.

In the days after the tragedy Barry and Danielle, who is a primary school teacher, said their daughter would have conquered the freestyle dance world with her confidence, determination and resilience.

“She was, and always will be, an absolute diamond,” they said.

“Robyn was the best thing to happen to both of us. She truly was a blessing in our lives and I’m sure many more people would agree. We will forever remember the loving, kind, gentle and caring wee soul that blessed our lives with the biggest heart of gold.”

Robyn’s funeral will take place this week.
