Mcglynn eager to get his squad back out on the training pitch

-

John Mcglynn admits feeling frustrated after being denied the “heavenly” feeling of getting back to training.

But the Raith Rovers boss insists he fully understands the decision to ban clubs from meeting up again until next week.

Mcglynn was scheduled to gather his Rovers squad for the start of pre-season training yesterday, with their initial coronavirus testing having taken place last week in advance of their return.

The Joint Response Group’s decree that no club beyond the Premiership can train until August 24 ensured the Kirkcaldy club had to rip up their plans – and brought a scathing response from Hearts, who resumed on August 3.

After five months off due to the pandemic, Mcglynn is itching to get back to Stark’s Park to begin preparing for life back in the Championship.

However, after the lockdown rule breaches of the eight players at Aberdeen and Celtic’s Boli Bolingoli, the former Hearts and Livingston manager recognises the need for Scottish football to ensure it does not get a dreaded red card from First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

He said: “No one can be seen to be flouting the rules and it’s unfortunate what’s happened, so you can understand the reaction of the Joint Response Group and we have to abide by that, and we will.

“Like everyone who’s involved in football at the level we’re at, it has been a really long, long, long time away, so another few days is not going to harm us in that respect.

“But we are ready to go, our plans are in place, so it is frustrating.

“I just want to get away from a laptop screen, get away from phone calls and get out on to that training pitch – that would be like heaven.

“It’s been a long time coming and we really just want to get out there.

“But we appreciate and understand that to do that the government has, quite rightly, put a number of things in place so that we can go back safely and the country can still work, so we have to be mindful of that.”
