University of Dundee
Kenneth Baxter has supplied today’s photograph on the right and says: “This image shows a train headed by Class 47 British Rail diesel locomotive No 47 550 University of Dundee at platform 1 of Dundee Station in February 1983.
“The previous year, this locomotive, which had been in service since 1964, had been renamed University of Dundee as part of the celebrations of the centenary of the foundation of University College, Dundee.
“Sadly, its nameplates were removed sometime after the privatisation of the railways in the 1990s, and the locomotive was eventually scrapped around 2010.”
