Bairns’ poor run leads to end of the road for Mccracken and Miller

-

David Mccracken and Lee Miller have been sacked as joint-managers at Falkirk – less than 24 hours after the club lost their place at the League One summit.

Sporting director Gary Holt has been made caretaker manager and has been charged with leading the push for promotion.

Bairns chairman Gary Deans cited recent performances and results as “not being good enough” in deciding to axe the pair.

Falkirk, who were beaten 1-0 at Peterhead on Tuesday, have only taken four points from their last five games and now trail leaders Partick Thistle by two points with four games left.

Deans said: “It’s never easy having to ask people to leave the football club and this is no different.

“Both Lee and David, as well as Derek Jackson (goalkeeping coach), have been good servants to this club, but we all must acknowledge things have not worked out as envisaged. Performances and results have not been good enough and change is required.

“We thank all three for their contribution to Falkirk FC over a number of years and wish them well for the future.

“We are grateful Gary Holt has agreed to

assume temporary control of first-team duties. This was not the role Gary was originally recruited for, and both he and the board of directors, are keen to undertake a rigorous process to recruit a new first-team coaching set-up which will allow Gary to return to his sporting director duties and to continue building on the positive work undertaken so far.”

Former Falkirk players Miller and Mccracken were appointed as jointcaretaker managers in November 2019 following Ray Mckinnon’s sacking before being handed the reins on a permanent basis.

Falkirk were controversially denied promotion last season after finishing a point behind Raith Rovers in the curtailed League One campaign.
