Davidson in clear for promotion push after case date pushed back

-

Iain Davidson has been cleared to play in Raith Rovers’ promotion playoff bid after a new date was set for his Scottish FA disciplinary case.

The Stark’s Park veteran is facing a charge of excessive misconduct following an incident in last month’s 1-0 defeat to Inverness Caley Thistle.

Caley striker Nikolay Todorov, who is also facing an excessive misconduct charge, has alleged he was racially abused during the match.

Davidson was redcarded following an aerial challenge with the Bulgarian before a melee resulted in a second dismissal after he appeared to grab Sean Welsh by the throat.

His case was initially heard on April 15 but, with Cowdenbeath chairman Donald Findlay QC acting on behalf of Davidson, that hearing was adjourned and a new date of May 27 has now been set.

Crucially, that is after the second leg of the Premiership play-off final should Raith make it all the way in their bid for a return to the top flight.

Todorov’s case, which was originally slated for Thursday, will also now take place on the same date as Davidson’s hearing.

Meanwhile, Raith manager John Mcglynn is still convinced his side can cling on to second on the Championship, despite Saturday’s defeat to challengers Dundee.

The 2-1 loss at Dens Park means just a point separates the teams going into Friday’s final round of fixtures when Raith host Hearts and Dundee travel to face Queen of the South.

Rovers need a victory over the champions if Dundee take all three points at Palmerston Park.

Mcglynn said: “Saturday was disappointing but we’re still in the driving seat.

“We have to beat Hearts this week to finish second.

“So, it’s a good game to look forward to and with one game to go, still a lot to play for.

“It is in our hands. It would have been nice to have done it at the weekend, but that’s not been the case.

“So, we’ve got a nice game now on Friday night against Hearts, so it’s a big game to look forward to.”
