rechin City striker Garry Wood grabbed his first hat-trick since signing for the club at the start of the season, in a 4-0 victory over basement club Fort William at Glebe Park.

The 33-year-old Aberdonian was delighted his three goals saw City get back to winning ways after the disappointment of two recent defeats.

“I’m absolutely delighted to grab my first hat-trick since signing for Brechin, but more importantly it was really important for the team to bounce back after the disappointment of recent results,” he said.

“How you react after defeats is very important and we certainly didn’t do enough last week up at Formartine, but the team played really well today and it was good to score four goals, keep a clean sheet and get back to winning ways.

“Although Fraserburgh are well ahead at the moment, we just have to worry about ourselves and make sure we win as many games as we possibly can and see where that takes us at the end of the season.

“We have another tough encounter next week away to Brora Rangers and we need to maintain the level of performance we showed today up at Dudgeon Park.”

Wood set his side on the victory trail in the 24th minute when he headed home a Michael Cruickshank cross and that was the way it remained at half-time.

Fort William were dealt a severe blow just a couple of minutes into the second half when Yves Zama was shown a red card for a bad challenge on Jamie Bain.

Brechin made that extra man count by going two goals up in the 68th minute when Wood blasted home from close range.

The ex-montrose striker completed his hat-trick just six minutes later when he converted from the penalty spot after substitute Ewan Loudon had been brought down in the box.

The on-loan St Johnstone youngster then put the finishing touches to a fine performance when he slotted home the fourth goal on the stroke of full-time.

City manager Andy Kirk said: “I was really pleased with the result and the level of our performance.

“We’ve scored four goals and kept a clean sheet, so I have to be happy.”
