North End claim big win over Broughty as Lochee go into third

The game of the day in the Midlands League saw Broughty Athletic welcome Dundee North End and it was the visitors that earned a 3-1 win.

North End took a deserved 14th minute lead through Frankie Devine.

A great strike from John Farquharso­n doubled North End’s advantage with 10 minutes left.

Broughty instantly pulled a goal back when Derryn Kesson scored, only for Gary Sutherland to get his side’s third.

League leaders Dundee East Craigie remain six points clear at the top following a comfortabl­e 5-1 win over Dundee Violet.

The Shipbuilde­rs went in front through Grady Mcgrath, and Lee Cameron made it two.

Mcgrath scored his second a minute before the break for 3-0.

Mcgrath went on to complete his hat-trick on 71 minutes and Cameron scored the fifth, and his second, with 10 to go.

Cammy Ross scored a consolatio­n for Violet.

Lochee United took advantage of Broughty Athletic dropping points and went above them in to third place following a 3-0 win over Forfar United at Thomson Park.

Kerr Hay put Lochee in front on 34 minutes and Kevin Milne doubled the lead when he slid the ball home.

George Johnstone made sure of the win when he scored the third goal on 70 minutes, scoring at the back post after Milne had squared the ball.

Carnoustie Panmure remain in second, six points behind East Craigie with a game in hand after a 5-0 win against Downfield who had to play most the game with 10 men.

Connor Coupe put the Gowfers in front after good work on the left and Downfield’s task wasn’t made any easier when Jordan Garden was sent off for two quick bookings.

Carnoustie were gifted a second goal on 37 minutes when Mcarthur put the ball into his own net.

Jamie Winter made it three on 54 minutes when he rifled the ball home from 25 yards only to better that strike, crashing the ball home from more than 30 yards.

Robert Smith celebrated a return from Covid by cutting in from the left and striking the ball home.

Lochee Harp moved into seventh above hosts Forfar West End with a 1-0 win at Strathmore Park.

Kirriemuir Thistle were sweating for the last 20 minutes of their game against Blairgowri­e after the visitors threatened a late comeback.

Thistle took the lead on 13 minutes through Nathan Degernier, Liam Duell struck on 52 minutes and Robbie George added a third.

Ben Middleton pulled a goal back on 67 minutes before Ian Plenderlei­th scored a second just a couple of minutes later, but Kirrie held on to win.

Tayport beat Scone Thistle 6-1 at Farquharso­n Park.

Ryan Paterson put Tayport in front on 21 minutes and following a red card for Scone’s Ewan Williamson, Gordon Norrie added a second on 64 minutes, Ewan White made it three on 73 and Greg Mccolm scored with 10 to go. Paul Sludden scored the fifth on 86 minutes, before Mccolm got his second and Tayport’s sixth. Kieran Brand scored a consolatio­n for Scone.

Letham move up into 12th place after a 3-0 win over Dundee St James at Seven Acres. Lewis Allan put the Perth side in front on 19 minutes and Jack Hamilton made it 2-0 just five minutes later. Adam Storrar scored the third.

Brechin Vics returned to action after their lengthy lay-off with a bang, thrashing Coupar Angus 7-0 at Foxhall Park. Aaron Stephen scored four of the goals for the visitors with Lawrie Mitchell, Lewis Greig and Josh Paterson helping out.

Montrose Roselea and Hermes had to settle for a share of the points after they drew 1-1 at Links Park in the North Region Super League. The goals came within four minutes in the middle of the first half, Murray Soutar put Roselea in front on 28 minutes with Luke Barbour equalising for the visitors.
