It’s the room where you relax, socialise and maybe even where you eat – so your living room should be somewhere you enjoy spending time. Is yours in dire need of a revamp? Have you been putting it off for fear of breaking the bank?

Well, fear not, as we have some top tips to help you spruce up your living room – on a budget!

Change the layout

One of the easiest and cheapest ways to revamp a room is simply to rearrange the furniture. You can give the space a total update – without spending a penny!

Perhaps, instead of following a traditional layout with coffee table in the centre and sofas against the walls, you could pull furniture away from the walls, or create new focal points – of artwork or windows – and have chairs facing this, rather than the TV.

Or, you could simply declutter, removing bulky items of furniture altogether, to make the room seem larger in size.

Make your own art

What can really change the feel or essence of a room is its artwork.

Huge, abstract pieces can make a statement and totally transform the mood of the space.

And, to save money, make your own! You can find tutorial videos online of how to create attractive, abstract murals which would likely cost an arm and a leg in your local gallery!

Get messy, get making and DIY!

Use sofa covers or throws

There is no denying that sofas are expensive.

But, to save money, you can easily buy sofa covers to hide your old, aged couches and give them a brand new lease of life!

Add some throws and cushions into the mix and we promise, they will be virtually unrecognisable!

Rethink the lighting

Living room lighting can be changed or updated quickly and easily – to great effect.

By introducing floor and table lamps, you will form warm pools of light at different heights, making the room feel cosy and

Consider changing up your light shades too. Darker tones or shades with cut outs will create interesting shadows and will add to the atmosphere of the room.

Reconsider your flooring

New floors can totally transform rooms – making them feel warmer, more modern or just a bit more sophisticated!

They can, however, be expensive. So, to avoid spending too much money, why not paint your floor? You can source floor paint from hardware shops for relatively cheap and the outcome can totally revamp the space.

Paint it white to create beachy vibes, or a dark shade for a cosier feel.

Add plenty of rugs – you could even layer a few different patterns and prints – and this will add interest and warmth.
