Concern over provision of electric vehicle chargers

-

Concern has been raised about the provision of electric vehicle (EV) chargers in Perth and Kinross.

At a meeting of Perth and Kinross Council council leader Grant Laing told councillors – in response to questioning – they were “getting very old and so break down more frequently”.

The council is working with partners to plan how many chargers will be needed in the future and that they have the required capacities and speed as technology evolves.

Blairgowrie and Glens councillor Bob Brawn raised concern about EV infrastructure as members discussed the council’s Climate Action Annual Report and action plans for 2023-24.

Mr Brawn said: “I understand in the next

two years we’ll have solid state batteries in cars which will charge quicker, they will run quicker and their recycled charging is up to 100,000 times which would perhaps increase the number of people who want to buy electric cars.”

He asked if the council would increase the number of chargers and charging rate.

Climate Change and Sustainable Development team leader Divindy Grant said: “We are working with partners across Tayside to both quantify the future projections over the next two, five, 10 years and how many chargers we’ll need, capacities and making sure they are at the appropriate speed.”
