Cliff concert was a smash hit
Today’s main picture dates from October 1974 and recalls a visit to Dundee by music icon Sir Cliff Richard.
Tickets and a programme for the star’s charity show at the Caird Hall were being presented to Lord Provost Tom Moore by Samsur Rahman at the City Chambers.
Cliff, who was due to sing without taking a fee, had recently visited flood and famineravaged Bangladesh, and because of its close links with Dundee concert organisers had agreed that the proceeds should go to a rehabilitation centre based at Chandpur in the South Asian nation.
In 1974, Mr Rahman was working shifts in a Dundee jute mill in order to further his education at Leeds University.
Already Bsc-accredited from Rajshahi University, he had also gained a diploma in textile manufacture at Dundee College of Technology while his family were in faraway Bangladesh.
