Gable Endies finish off ‘sloppy’ Hearts

KELTYHEARTS MONTROSE 3 1

Kelty Hearts manager John Potter hit out at his side losing two late goals as they went down 3-1 at home to Montrose.

It was a storming finish from the Gable Endies who got their second goal on 90 minutes and then made sure of the points with a third goal deep into stoppage time.

Potter said that one bright spot was the display of Jamie Barjonas who hit their equaliser just after the interval, had a number of other good shots and was the “man of the match”.

The manager said he felt his side had been OK in the first half and had a good second half but just didn’t do enough to win the game.

“We were sloppy for a minute or two but to lose goals and the manner we lost goals was disappointing. It’s a game we should be picking something from,” he said.

“Jamie was excellent again this week and took the game by the scruff of the neck and he was probably the catalyst for us doing so well in the second half.

“He’s big, he’s quick and he is comfortable with the ball and he’s probably working a lot harder off the ball than he has done. I think he was man of the match in my eyes.

“I think we did create some good chances but there’s still areas we can be better at.

“As a team I did think we created but just couldn’t put the ball away.”

Montrose got a dream start with a second minute goal when Rory Mcallister fastened on to a ball from Michael Gardyne and from just a few yards put the ball out of reach of the keeper.

In the 15th minute Kelty had their first real chance when Alfredo Agyeman was just off target with a header but it skimmed the post and three minutes later his effort from 15 yards brought a diving save from the Montrose keeper Ross Sinclair.

Michael Gardyne came close with a 20-yarder for the visitors in the 20th minute but it was stopped by keeper Darren Jamieson and 10 minutes later he came to the rescue again when he stopped a shot from Rory Mcallister.

Kelty’s Alfredo Agyeman and Jamie Barjonas both saw shots midway through the half blocked as they fought hard for the equaliser but the visitors turned round with a one goal lead. It didn’t last long for Barjonas drove the ball into the net with a fine 20-yarder to equalise six minutes after the restart.

Agyeman was causing all sorts of problems for Montrose and twice he came close with shots but both were saved.

It was end-to-end throughout and then when it looked like a share of the points, Liam Callaghan’s pass found Graham Webster on 90 minutes and he shot home from close in to put the Gable Endies ahead.

Three minutes into stoppage time they made sure of the points with Craig Johnston hitting a great shot from outside the six-yard box.
