Draw feels like a loss admits Loons gaffer

FORFAR 1 BONNYRIGGROSE 1

New Forfar manager Ray Mckinnon’s first game in charge ended in heartache as his side conceded a late equaliser to fellow strugglers Bonnyrigg Rose.

Mckinnon, who took over in the Station Park dugout on Thursday,

admitted losing the 93rdminute equaliser felt more like the loss of all three points rather than the two.

“It feels like a defeat,” he said.

“Losing the goal so late in the game is always quite sore.

“I’m feeling a bit disappointed for the players because I thought their attitude was quite good today.

“We need to brush ourselves down now, we need to get in on Monday and make sure we have the mental attitude to keep improving as a team,” said the former Dundee United and Raith Rovers boss.

Loons striker Matty Aitken had the only real chance of a quiet first half.

His header looked destined for the net but Rose captain Jonathan Stewart was there to knock it away.

A tight game was brought to life in scintillating fashion 14 minutes from time.

A brilliant team move saw Jaden Ferguson receive the ball 12 yards out.

The Hearts loanee beat his man and slotted a composed finish into the bottom corner to score his first for the club and the first of Forfar’s new regime.

The Loons looked to be seeing the game out comfortably and move up to seventh in the league but some pinball in the box deep into injury time allowed George Hunter to take a touch and smash the ball into the top corner, sparking bedlam among the away fans.

The point sees the Loons remain at the bottom of the cinch League Two table and results elsewhere mean they are now two points adrift as “club 42”.
