Claas act Xerion still one of best

-

For some tractor drivers, it’s the stuff of dreams… big butch appearance, four equal wheels with huge tyres, all the guidance and technology you could want and with 530hp harnessed by your right foot.

Yet the Claas Xerion, celebrating 25 years in production, has another celebrated trick that operators can brag about in the pub – a cab that lifts on a hydraulic cylinder, rotates and settles down again facing a different direction.

It’s the Trac VC version of the current model that provides this ability to work the tractor in either direction as suits the work it’s doing and the equipment it’s using.

This was part of the concept dreamed up years ago when Claas engineers first started working on the project.

They envisaged a power unit that would form the basis of a wrap-around beet harvester, carry a slurry tank and injector, and operate multiple mowers for silage work – all in addition to the more routine roles of a tractor.

Ironically, although some Xerions are used with rear-mounted or fifth-wheel towed slurry tankers, and for powering oversize woodchippers, the tractor has evolved into a credible machine primarily working in traditional roles as a highpower field tractor.

And its fanbase is growing as farmers in Australia and North America come to appreciate its abilities.

As a consequence, annual sales have doubled over the past three years, appealing to those seeking efficiencies through increased power and performance.
