Carer sexually assaulted women at work

-

A Fife care worker sexually assaulted two women at his workplace.

Daryl Mcfarlane repeatedly struck and handled one of his victims on the bottom over her clothing, seized her by the neck and touched her bra over her clothing.

In an earlier incident, the 30-year-old repeatedly placed his hand on and handled another woman’s neck and body.

The incidents took place at Alexander House, a 40-bedroom nursing home in Crossgates, in October last year.

Mcfarlane appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing, having previously admitted the two sexual assault charges.

Sheriff David Hall told him: “These are serious matters. These offences were committed in the course of your employment.

“The behaviour indulged in is not acceptable... it could have caused anxiety to the two complainers in the case”.

Sheriff Hall sentenced Mcfarlane to 150 hours’ unpaid work and put him on the sex offenders’ register for a year.

Mcfarlane, of Dunfermline’s Islay Road, was also placed on an offender supervision order for a year.

Defence lawyer Alexander Flett said his client now works elsewhere and that his new employers are aware of the case and have no concerns.
