First minister welcomes benefit demand as website struggles

Scotland’s First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has welcomed the demand for a newly-expanded benefit as the website for applicatio­ns reportedly crashed yesterday. The Scottish Child Payment was expanded to include all eligible families with children under the age of 16, as well as increasing the payment from £20 per week to £25. Ms Sturgeon is seen talking to pupils during a visit to Whitehill Secondary School, Glasgow, yesterday.
