Reduce expenditur­e by culling MSP numbers

Sir, – Should those politician­s suggesting cuts to government expenditur­e not put their own house in order?

Do we really require more than 125 members of the Scottish Parliament? The role of an MSP is to formulate

policy and then bring forward legislatio­n (the necessary Bills are drawn up by civil servants).

The USA has a population of more than 250 million yet gets by on 100 senators. Surely for a country the size of Scotland we only require 30 MSPS at most? Eric Gibbons. Coldingham Place, Dunfermlin­e.
