Dons happy to leave Robinson at Dens

- GEORGE CRAN

Dundee boss Gary Bowyer has confirmed AFC Wimbledon have the power to recall in-form striker Zach Robinson in January. The 20-year-old is leading the scoring charts at Dens Park this season with eight goals in 18 matches.

And he has been in red-hot form in recent weeks with three strikes in his last two games, including a match-winning brace against Raith Rovers last weekend.

Bowyer, though, is relaxed over the possibility of his goal-getter heading back to London during the transfer window.

Though the Dons are off the pace in League Two down south, sitting in 15th spot after relegation last term, the Dens gaffer insists they are happy to leave Robinson where he is.

Bowyer said: “It is the same with all these people you bring on loan at any club, there is always something put in (regarding a recall option). But I have good dialogue with Wimbledon and Zach’s development has kicked on from playing regular football. They are happy with how he is doing.

“We just have to keep going and see where it’s at but they are pleased with how he is progressing.”

Dundee are also hoping to tie down their talented youngsters to new contracts with a number of players coming to an end of their current deals next summer.

Bowyer revealed earlier in the season talks had begun with “a couple” of them, though nothing has as yet been signed.

Back in July, he told The Courier: “We are in talks with a couple.

“It’s important to any football club that they look after their assets, especially when they are homegrown.”

Now, he has confirmed academy graduates Josh Mulligan, Harry Sharp, Lyall Cameron and Max Anderson have been lined up for new deals.

But, as manager, he’s not part of the negotiation process.

“The club is in talks with the young ones especially Mulligan, Sharp, Cameron and Anderson,” Bowyer revealed.

“That’s one of the beauties of my role, you pass it on to the people above to sort.”

Dundee are preparing to host the Championship’s bottom side Hamilton Accies this weekend as they look to make it three wins on the spin.

Last weekend’s victory over Raith was their best performance of the season, according to Bowyer.

However, he insists there are still improvements yet to come from the Dark Blues.

“Like I said at the time, I thought it was our best performance of the season but I think there is still a lot more to come from us,” Bowyer added.

“We are also playing a new formation and we are only going to get better if we continue to play it.

“It seemed to suit us on that particular occasion against Partick and we carried it through to Raith. Full credit to the players, they have taken it all on board.

“But going through the video of the game I am thinking: ‘That could be better and that could be better.’

“However, the big thing was how we adapted to the new system and how comfortable we looked both in and out of possession.

“But like I said, there is still loads more to come.

“Being critical, we had so many opportunities in the second half on the counter - so many.

“From that point of view, there is still a lot of work to be done as we know.”
