The countdown to Christmas is on in Broughty Ferry as Gillies unveiled its much-anticipated annual window display.

Staff at the furniture store have been hard at work over the last 10 months planning the display.

Ahead of yesterday’s unveiling, Gillies marketing director Ewan Philp said: “It takes about 10 months of planning to organise animations and the design.

“There’s a lot of preparation to make sure it all comes together.”

He continued: “The theme this year is lifesaver Santa and it is dedicated to the crews of the RNLI lifeboats.

“All proceeds from donations will be going to the Broughty Ferry lifeboat station.”

Lifeboat coxswain Peter Hay thanked Gillies for the fundraising efforts.

He said: “Gillies, like Broughty Ferry RNLI, are part of the fabric of Broughty Ferry.

“They have a long history of supporting our lifeboats.

“We encourage everyone to pop along to Gillies and have a look at this year’s window.”

The shop’s display was unveiled despite a yellow rain warning putting a dampener on events to mark the start of the Christmas season.

Downpours throughout the day forced organisers to cancel the switching-on of the Christmas lights.
