Man admits attacking police officers

-

A civil engineer attacked two police officers after they told him to stop drinking in the street.

Officers spotted Greg Brown with an open bottle on Carnegie Drive, Dunfermline.

After being told to pour it away, the 38-year-old got into a struggle with the constables, crushing the hand of a female officer, identified in court as PC Keiller.

Brown, of Rintoul Avenue, Blairhall, admitted assaulting two police officers on July 19 2020.

His defence solicitor Ian Beatson said Brown, who is currently studying for a master’s in civil engineering, was under the influence of alcohol at the time.

He said: “He accepts it was not acceptable to act in that manner.

“He accepts he should not have acted in the way he did.”

Sheriff Wylie Robertson told Brown were it not for a gap in his record – he last offended in 2016 – a custodial sentence could have been imposed.

Instead he ordered Brown to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work and placed him on a 15-month supervision order.
