Residents hit out over ‘vile’ graffiti attack
People living in a Dundee street have hit out at “vile” graffiti sprayed on a block of flats. A building on Byron Street was targeted on Tuesday night with obscenities covering large parts of the building.
The Courier has blurred out the content which has been etched around three window frames.
It included graphic images and offensive slurs.
It is the second time in a week the building has been vandalised, with a vehicle parked outside also targeted in the first incident.
Dundee City Council staff are now working to cover the graffiti, though there are fears it will happen again.
Those living inside the block near Lawton Road confirmed a vehicle outside was also targeted last week.
One man said members of the public tried to cover some of the offensive material before vandals struck again.
He said: “I came home on Tuesday night, at around 10pm, and there was more offensive material added.
“It’s completely childish that someone has done this and I feel for the person who this has been aimed at.
“There were some efforts to paint over the offensive material before someone has come back and added more. It’s very concerning.”
One woman who lives in a neighbouring block said she felt sorry for the person on the receiving end of the offensive messages.
She said: “It started last week, some time over Wednesday night and Thursday morning.
“A car was vandalised and so was the outside of the building.
“The car doesn’t belong to the person the graffiti was aimed at, so it looks like the car was wrongly targeted.
“It’s absolutely vile that
someone could write that outside someone’s home.”
Council staff were at the property on Tuesday inspecting the damage.
A spokesman for the local authority said: “Graffiti is an anti-social behaviour that blights communities and areas where it happens.
“It is unsightly and costs the council and owners
money to clean off or cover up.
“We would encourage anyone who encounters graffiti to contact the council on 433063 to arrange to have it attended to.”
Police Scotland confirmed they received a report regarding the initial incident on Thursday November 10.
