VOLLEYBALL

Perth and District Premier League volleyball got under way at Bell’s Sports Centre with Fair City side Eagles taking on Dodgy Spikers. Both had new players in their ranks.

Spikers won the first set 25-20 and went on to clinch the match with a 25-18 second set success. Eagles, with a number of youngsters again playing, then took on a youthful Team Fife. Eagles edged the first set 25-23 but the second set saw the Fife youngsters lead 19-16 at fulltime for a split result.

Team Fife were heading for a comfortabl­e lead at 24-19 but a Kinross comeback saw the scores draw level 26-26 with Fife edging it 28-26. Kinross then faced Perth who are made up of youngsters who attend the Tuesday training sessions at Perth High School. Kinross won the first set 25-21. The second set saw Kinross lead 16-14 with three minutes to play but Perth fought back to win the set 17-16.

Perth couldn’t repeat the dose against Mental Blocks with Blocks triumphing 25-12, 17-16. The Mental Blocks-dodgy Spikers game was finely balanced at 18-18 before Spikers won the first set 25-22. The second set was equally close but again Spikers did just enough to scrape ahead 18-15 at the final whistle.
