Perth Film Society to show Our Ladies
Classic Scottish comingof-age comedy Our Ladies is next on the agenda for the popular Perth Film Society this month.
Based on Alan Warner’s novel, The Sopranos, which went on to win the Saltire Society Book of the Year, this is a riotous tale with deep workingclass roots.
It’s the story of a group of 17-year-old Fort William schoolgirls who get to go to Edinburgh for a choir competition with their teacher. Of course, once in the city, singing is their last motivation, and they go on the rampage, putting flight to the frustrations of rural life with gusto. Drinking and partying rule for now.
As much a subtle study of class and enduring friendships as it is of sexual awakening, this is a tribute to uncensored working class young women who feel at their indestructible peak.
The film is also an introductory event to P&K Violence Against Women Partnership’s 16 Days of Activism.
Joan Knight Studio, Perth Theatre, November 24.
