Petrie taking cautious approach for Queens

-

Montrose boss Stewart Petrie says his side will adopt a “cautious” approach when they face Queen of the South in Dumfries.

The Gable Endies are looking to make it three wins in a row after suffering a disappointing defeat to Airdrie at the end of October.

Since then, the Links Park side have recorded two wins, the most recent being their 3-1 victory at Kelty Hearts last weekend.

Despite the scoreline, Petrie says they were worked hard for their victory and he revealed a change in tactics from their previous away game.

“We were very fortunate last week. I thought Kelty were better than us in the second half,” he admitted.

“We went down to Airdrie with an attackminded system then we were out the game at half-time.

“That’s something we’ve looked at and decided to be a bit more cautious away from home.

“There are good teams in this league and we go to another full-time one this weekend.

“We’ll be cautious to start with and try to stay in the game.

“If you don’t concede early, it helps give a foothold in the game and we’ll attempt to do that again. The response to having lost to Airdrie has been great.”

Montrose face a Doonhamers side who have struggled for form this season and will look to bounce back from a 5-1 defeat to Alloa.

Petrie is expecting a reaction from Willie Gibson’s side.

He said: “It’s a tough venue, but we’ll be ready and look to keep our momentum going.”

Montrose will head south with Paul Watson and Sean Dillon missing as the experienced duo have not quite recovered from knocks.

However, the side have been boosted by the return of Dundee United loanee Adam Hutchinson from injury.
