Eggs expert Karen cracks it with prestigious industry service gong
The winner of the Poultry Club of Scotland’s award for outstanding service and contribution to the industry has been revealed as Karen Campbell, of Glenrath Eggs.
Ms Campbell won the Howie/surgenor award 15 years after her father and founder of the Borders firm, Sir John Campbell.
In a citation from Kenny Shaw, managing director of Lohmann GB, Ms Campbell was praised for serving her company and the industry with distinction for years.
Mr Shaw said: “Karen’s drive, initiative and enthusiasm were important factors in her contribution to both her family’s business and the industry at large.
“She has demonstrated excellence and dedication in all her activities throughout her career and this continues to this day.
“Karen’s technical
knowledge, experience and insights have added value to Glenrath and the industry in many ways.”
After graduating from Edinburgh University, Ms Campbell taught at Innerleithen Primary School before, in the mid1990s, she moved into the family business, initially in a human resources role.
She is a Nuffield scholar and a member of the NFU
Scotland poultry board. The award is given in memory of two poultry industry pioneers – Dennis Surgenor, of the Scottish Egg Producers and Retailers Association, and Tom Howie, from Lainshaw Farm Eggs.
The club’s 2022 young person of the year award was won by Laura Harrison, of PD Hook Hatcheries Ltd.
