Unforgettable festive fare

Delicious food and drink play a big part in Christmas celebrations, not just on the day itself but in lots of gatherings throughout the festive season and special gifts of local delicacies

-

It’s quite strange to think that on one particular day practically everyone is essentially eating the same meal, but the traditions, customs and culture everyone attaches to their Christmas dinner makes it personal and special.

The first decision is where you have it – does one family member host it for a big crowd, with guests bringing starters, desserts and sides? Do you split all the chores, with someone setting the table, someone else making a yule log and an expert baster keeping the roasties and turkey in perfect condition? Or do you prefer to snuggle down as a couple and spend the whole day in jammies, eating dinner in front of the telly? Everyone has different expectations, and the best way to ensure happiness all round is to discuss what works for you, rather than assuming everyone else can read your mind.

Maybe this is the year when you’d prefer to leave all the hard work to the professionals, so you’ve booked Christmas dinner at a local restaurant or hotel. Many people claim that they couldn’t bear to get dressed up and head out on Christmas Day until they actually try it, and suddenly can’t imagine doing anything else. Whatever you intend, whether eating in or dining out, a little forward planning goes a long way in ensuring your Christmas feast is a complete success.
