Residents in Dundee flats got a scare yesterday when a wall being demolished collapsed into the road. Later, a communal clothes pole ripped off a section of a first-floor “plat” in a separate incident at the site of a new primary school near Ann Street.

The trouble started at about 2.30pm when an outer wall collapsed into the roadway and threw several tonnes of rubble into the garden of a house occupied by Mr Anthony Kasprowicz.

He said: “I was sitting with two of my children watching television in the back room when there was a tremendous roar and the whole house shook.”

rison service chiefs confirmed last night that they are considering more than 20 sites across Dundee for a female community custody unit.

The new centre – due to open in 2020 – would house women nearing the end of their jail sentences as part of their preparations for returning to society.

Land currently occupied by Rosebank Primary School in the Hilltown, which is due to close next year, has been named as the preferred location for the scheme.

However, residents have mounted a campaign against plans, with opposition to the unit being placed at Rosebank or Our Lady’s RC primary schools also fierce.
