Staff and students get free breakfasts
A university is offering all its students and staff free breakfasts for the next three months as part of efforts to try to combat the cost-ofliving crisis.
Glasgow Caledonian University said the scheme was being brought in at what was a “particularly challenging time” for many.
From today, staff and students can tuck into a free hot breakfast, fruit and a cup of tea or coffee from the university’s George Moore restaurant.
The initiative, which will initially run until the end of February, is part of a partnership the university has with independent hospitality food service provider Baxter Storey.
The breakfasts will be available between 8am and 11am Monday to Friday, with an extra counter being put into operation in the restaurant to cope with the anticipated demand.
University principal and vice-chancellor Professor Pamela Gillies said: “This GCU initiative will provide our students and staff with the opportunity to start their day with a free, healthy and warming breakfast.”
