No trains through city on New Year’s Day due to railway works

-

Rail improvements over the festive period will result in no trains running through Dundee on New Year’s Day.

Network Rail, which manages the UK’S rail network, confirmed the engineering works will see no trains in Dundee on the first day of 2023.

London North Eastern Railway (LNER) and Cross Country trains will instead depart and terminate from Edinburgh Waverley.

Meanwhile, Scotrail has confirmed its trains will not run on Christmas or New Year’s Day.

The works are part of a multi-million-pound number of maintenance projects to improve reliability and punctuality of trains in Scotland.

A range of track, signalling and drainage works will be carried out on New Year’s Day, with rail users being urged to “plan ahead”.

Kris Kinnear, capital delivery director of Network Rail Scotland, said: “These essential works will help improve the passenger experience while protecting the railway infrastructure for years to come.

“Most of the festive period works are being completed when trains are not running.

“We are, however, urging passengers – especially those travelling in the east of the country – to plan ahead and check their journey in advance,” he continued.
