UK vanity projects costing trillions
Sir, – I read with interest the letter from Victor Clements (November 18) in which he vainly tries to defend the indefensible.
The main difference between the very small number of Scottish projects and the massive number of UK vanity projects is that the former is measured in millions and the latter in billions. It is worth pausing and remembering that a billion is a thousand million pounds, hence the UK’S £2.7 trillion debt.
Mr Clements seeks to show there will be duplication postindependence which I found perplexing. Quite frankly, the opposite will be the case and there will be a total absence of duplication coupled with common sense. I would also remind Mr Clements that we were promised 14 ships along with Project Fear and the totally discredited “vow” when it looked like the independence vote could go to Yes in 2014.
These were subsequently cancelled so I won’t hold my breath this time.
I’m sure The Proclaimers could pen new words to a familiar tune: Trident no more Corruption no more Rwanda planes no more Foodbanks no more Lords no more Dodgy tanks no more HS2 no more.
