Dundee reserves soundly beaten in cup tie
Dundee were handed a heavy defeat in the Reserve Cup after a 5-1 home drubbing to Queen’s Park.
They met at Whitton Park in the third round of fixtures in Group One with a Scott Williamson hat-trick helping the Spiders to the points.
This was a first victory for Queen’s Park in the cup this season and they go level with Dundee on three points.
Northern Ireland international Niall Mcginn featured for the Dee. He was joined by other senior men who have been short of game time lately.
Cillian Sheridan started Dundee’s weekend Championship win over Hamilton but only played 45 minutes while Derick Osei was a second-half sub.
Both started alongside Lyall Cameron, Luke Mccowan and goalie Harry Sharp.
The 21-year-old keeper was beaten early on as Queen’s Park took the lead through an Alex Bannon header.
Sheridan was replaced by another senior frontman in Alex Jakubiak at half-time.
The visitors extended their lead after the break through Williamson, who added another on 69 minutes.
A late breakaway brought a fourth on 86 minutes as Alex Fairlie netted before substitute Jamie Richardson turned home a Mcginn free-kick for a late Dundee consolation.
Williamson added his third in the final minute of normal time.
