Not such a hazy memory yet

-

A Craigie regular is bemused by the recent news that the Wellgate Centre might be demolished – partly because he remembers it being built!

“It must have been at some point in the mid-1970s,” declares our correspondent, “when as a young DC Thomson scribe I would sometimes lunch at an upstairs cafe in Panmure Street, across the road from what was to become the Wellgate Centre.

“The old buildings were razed to the ground for some time before redevelopment began, apart from one solid square structure which I was told was the strongroom of a bank, and which required dynamite to shift.”
