Unionists oppose any other arguments for sake of it

-

Sir, – There is rank hypocrisy on the part of the unionists expecting people to move on from their view of Nicola Sturgeon’s personal “obsession”.

Far from being a personal obsession it is the stated and considered dream of, at present, around half our population. Is pursuit of any dream of an alternative, if not much better national identity, merely at the whims of those who oppose that?

Are we all expected to shrug our shoulders, doff caps and tug forelocks because the other half say so? What about the obsession with austerity, the obsession of enhancing the wealth of the few by handing out billions of our future taxes, the completely misguided Brexit, the obsession with cutting public services, all to ease the tax burden on those same wealthy few?

What about those demanding things are done about declining public services yet oppose any attempts to do something about them? Still less take those same concerns to the UK Parliament.

While it is fair that people wish their opinion be paramount, the goal of independence is not something that goes away just because one person, whom the Scots did not elect, says “no”.

The question of our future remains valid whatever the circumstances and it is completely fair, right and proper that it be examined as those circumstances change.

While the opportunities of going our own way are well set out and published, there has never been a similar analysis or proposal from those opposing that position.

The childish answer is always the same; “no”, “now is not (ever) the time”, “we can’t”, “we couldn’t”, “we aren’t able”.

If those with that mindset actually thought about their position and compared the opportunity that is continually denied us with the alternative it would make an adult and informed debate.

Sadly, the unionists just oppose for the sake of it and do not do any of us, or themselves, any favours.
