Extreme language does not impress

-

Sir, – I really must spring to Jill Stephenson’s defence (Iain Macechern, November 22). I always find her contributions well argued, with evidence to back up her case, but most importantly expressed in temperate language. They are not “hate rants”. I am undecided as to whether to support Indeyref2 or not, but extreme language does not impress me.

It was revealing that Iain seems to equate Nicola Sturgeon, the SNP, the Scottish Government and Scotland as common targets for Jill. But I have yet to read an attack on Scotland by her. She strikes me as a patriot but with a different opinion to nationalists as to what is best for Scotland and Scots.

Iain also wants all National Insurance paid in Scotland to remain in Scotland to pay for pensions.

Good luck with that. The whole UK working population has to contribute if we are to enjoy the pensions we currently have.

I hope the forthcoming paper on pensions from the Scottish Government does not shy away from this.

So, far from feeling “sad” when reading letters from Jill, they make a refreshing change from the mostly ill-tempered contributions from nationalists.

Gaun yersel Jill.
