Fair City Rollers ready for big double-header

-

Perth’s roller derby team Fair City Rollers (FCR) are to host a “November Pain” double-header at Bells Sports Centre on Sunday.

FCR’S Fear Maidens team will face up to Lothimean, a mix of players from Lothian Roller Derby and Glasgow’s Mean City Roller Derby.

After a run of wins, all games and training were put on hold due to coronavirus restrictions, impacting greatly on the sport, not only for the Perth team but for teams around the world.

Board member Kirstin Guthrie said: “Being a full contact sport and played indoors, roller derby was one of the most restricted activities during lockdown.

“However, the team kept in contact by hosting virtual quiz nights and other events and, when allowed, meeting up for outdoor skating.

“Unfortunately some teams didn’t continue after lockdown so it means a lot for us to be able to play again.

“We’ve loads planned for next year, including more games, but organising a match is not quite as easy as some other sports.

“We’re grateful for all the help and support we’ve received, as a game actually requires seven referees, a group of non-skating officials (NSOS) and a venue with enough space for the roller derby track.”

Sunday’s games offer fun for the family, with a cake table and raffle, as well as two action-packed games. Doors open at 11am.

Fair City Rollers was established in 2009 and trains weekly in Perth.
