Broughty Ferry man has admitted growing up to £250,000 worth of cannabis plants at his suburban home. William Hendry, 27, told police he had been “stupid” and his operation had gone “too far” after they raided his cottage on Arbroath Road.
Hendry has been told he could be jailed after he was bailed by Sheriff George Way at Dundee Sheriff Court yesterday.
Police found cannabis seedlings across his home, as well as sixfoot-high, fully-grown plants.
Hendry, listed as the director of ship and boat maintenance company 24-7 Marineservices Ltd, had his cottage searched after police obtained a warrant, the court heard.
Depute fiscal Callum Brown told the court: “After a search was carried out on June 9, 90 seedlings were found in one bedroom and 100 in another.
“Forty six-foot-tall mature plants were recovered from the property also.
“The accused was cautioned and charged and responded: ‘Things got out of hand. I had not done anything with it. I was stupid.’
“The crops had an estimated yield of between £50,000 to £250,000.”
Sheriff Way deferred sentencing for reports and said: “You will appreciate a production of a controlled drug is a very serious matter.
“I appreciate these are street values which have been provided but you are bringing into life a product which was not there before.
“But for your efforts, this production of drugs would not exist today.
“Just because I have granted you bail today does not mean custody will not be inevitable.
“I want you to understand that you have to make sure you turn up (to social work reports) and are honest with them.”
Hendry admitted being concerned in the production of cannabis on Arbroath Road on June 9 2022.
He will return to court for sentencing on January 12.
