Police warn cash theft may not be isolated
Two women who stole cash from a Glenrothes pensioner may have committed similar offences in Dundee and Kirkcaldy, police say.
The 74-year-old victim originally thought she had dropped the money after withdrawing it from a cash machine at the Kingdom Shopping Centre in Glenrothes on Tuesday morning.
But officers say a review of CCTV footage revealed two women had actually taken the cash from the victim’s bag.
Inspector Kirk Donnelly said: “At this time, we are following positive lines of inquiry and have identified similar thefts in Kirkcaldy and Dundee, suggesting that these individuals have the means to travel to commit crime.
“My officers are working closely with local banks to ensure vigilance when larger cash withdrawals are made by elderly or vulnerable people.”
Anyone with any information is urged to contact police on 101.
