Scots should benefit from offshore taxes
Sir, – The Conservative Government budget is taking £80 billion from the oil and gas industry in Scotland’s waters.
This could have protected an independent Scotland’s poor and vulnerable, along with funding regeneration and boosting a renewable energy industry.
Labour and Tory politicians, who have done everything they can to tie us to Westminster, have made not a single argument to direct even a portion of these tax revenues to Scotland and, in fact, voted against a motion to demand more.
In this they are complicit in the theft of our ability to help our own citizens.
Even the Labour government of Wales has made demands for greater funding.
We have opposition politicians with no moral centre.
It is gross negligence of responsibility for the wellbeing of our citizens.
