Pollution claims short on facts

-

Sir, – Regarding a rather rude letter against Charles Wardrop from Dr Jill Belch. (Letters, November 23).

She talks about decarbonisation and air pollution and that we in Scotland can solve this by banning fossil fuels, gas stoves and boilers and replacing them with air pumps.

Air pumps and ground pumps are six to 11 times more expensive than gas boilers.

Her saying that gas stoves and boilers are the most potent and poisonous cause of air pollution is absolute rubbish.

She obviously does not know that the European Union Parliament has declared that natural gas and nuclear are classed as green alongside wind solar and other renewable energy sources.

I notice that she makes no mention of wood-burning stoves which cause indoor and outdoor pollution from toxic air contaminants. Perhaps she has one. I trust that she also has an electric vehicle.

I am sure Dr Belch is aware that burning coal is the worst air pollutant. She will also be aware that Old King Coal is back world-wide and that there are over 8,800 coalfired plants.
